How to talk a GOOD GAME even if you are a NEWBIE

With the second round of the US Open underway at Pinehurst, it only seemed right to put together yet another cheat sheet for one of the majors. Please enjoy the cheat sheet to the US Open @ Pinehurst!

  • Pinehurst has eight golf courses but #2 is the most famous and is where the US Open Champion is crowned on Sunday!
  • Pinehurst #2 was restored to its original layout – which consists of a course with no rough. It’s all this waste area consisting of sand and native grasses
  • One time I drove through the night from DC down to NC to take my dad to play Pinehurst #2 for fathers day. A round to remember!
  • Payne Stewart won the US.Open at Pinehurst in 1999 but tragically died in a plane crash 3 months later.
  • Phil Mickelson has placed 2nd 6 times at the US Open; it is the only tournament he has left to win the grand slam. He is also under investigation for Insider Trading. No pressure #Phil, #overcomingadversity
  • The Masters, PGA Championship, The Open Championship (British) and the US Open make up the major tournaments in professional Golf and together are called the #GrandSlam
  • Tiger Woods still has 4 more majors to win to break Jack Niklaus’ record. Many are starting to doubt he can do it.
  • Pinehurst is in North Carolina
  • Rory McIlroy is the talk of the tournament; breaking off his engagement with Professional Tennis player Caroline Wozniacki right before the BMW Championship two weeks ago and because he won the US Open in 2011 @ Congressional.
  • Graeme McDowell is currently tied for 2nd place at the US Open and won it all in 2010!
  • In 2014, Pinehurst has the honor of hosting both the 2014 U.S. Open and U.S. Women’s Open Championships. It will mark the first time in history that both tournaments will be played in the same year, on the same course.
